Hon. Judith Nabakooba, the Minister for Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development pledged support towards the process of establishing a fully-fledged Makerere University Regional Centre for Urban Research, Governance and Innovation (MURCURGI). This was at the launch event and the closure of the Public Dialogue that provided a platform for discussing issues in urban development & greening Uganda’s cities held Makerere University College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, Thursday 6th June 2024.

Nakiwala Margaret successfully defended her Ph.D. Thesis titled: “Enhancing Access to Mortgage Financing Services for House Developers in GKMA Uganda: A study of Awareness, Attitudes, Challenges and Models.” She is an academic staff from the School of the Built Environment at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT). The event took place on 30th May 2024.

The Head of the Architecture and Physical Planning department at the College of Dr. Amin Tamale Kigundu said the 21st Century is about collaboration, and that as physical planners they may not be able to solve the problems but solutions and actions can be found through such networks. Makerere University Engineering staff who are not Registered Engineers have been urged to utilize the existing opportunity availed through a window specially created by the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) for Engineers in the Academia.

Assoc. Prof. Dorothy Okello, the Dean of the School of Engineering at CEDAT said the academia’s contribution to the engineering sector is unique and the way they are assessed ought to be unique.

Eng. Felix Twinomucunguzi successfully defended his Ph.D Thesis titled, A social –Technical Hazard Analysis of Emerging Organic Contaminants in Peri- urban Shallow Ground Water in Uganda.
The decision made by the Doctoral was announced by the Assoc. Prof. Dorothy Okello, the Dean School of Engineering who chaired the Ph.D Defence session held at the CEDAT Conference room yesterday. She congratulated the student and extended her appreciation to the team of examiners that supported the processes leading to the successful defence.
The team of examiners comprised of the opponent Dr. Martin Kalibbala, from the Training and Capacity Development Department, National Water and Sewerage Corporation, the panelists comprised Prof. J.B Kirabira from Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Robinson Odong from the Department of Zoology, Entomology and Fisheries Sciences in CONAS, Dr. Herbert Kalibbala, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Dr Wasswa John from Chemistry Department
Also in attendance were his supervisors namely Prof. Frank Kansiime, from the Department of Environmental Management in CAES and Dr. Robinah Kulabako , from the department of Civil and Environmental Management.
The public defense attracted a number of people in the public both physical and online drawn from various backgrounds including the family of the candidate.

research project titled: “ICT Platform for the Pathogen Economy (IPPE).” The project is a commercial Integrated AI-driven platform for screening diseases of national priority, including COVID-19, cervical and breast cancer. The research project is funded by the
Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Secretariat at the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation in Uganda to help develop a robust software platform to support their critical internal business processes

We are a multidisciplinary consortium of computer science, data science, bioinformatics, engineering, epidemiology, and public health experts. We are looking for outstanding individuals to contribute to realizing the project objectives and outcomes.
