Dean of Students, Makerere University Business School The Dean of students Office is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing a variety of Assists students in resolving their grievances.

The Department comprises of five sections, namely the Students’ Guild, Counseling Section, Kitchen and Dining Section, Berlin Hostel and Sports Section. The Dean of Students:-

Informs students about School Regulations, Policies and Procedures. Processes Living Out Allowances for government sponsored non-resident students. Facilitates communication between students, staff and the academic communit

y. Monitors the experience of students in the academic and social environment. Identifies the particular needs of, and areas of concern to, students. Communicates patterns of general concern to appropriate staff. Some of the services provided to students include but are not limited to:-

Training- leadership & management, gender awareness, peer counseling, HIV/AIDS awareness, security awareness, among others. Dining services

Sports Activities
Special allowances and privileges for students’ with disabilities
Processing Living Out allowances to entitled students
Support to various students’ activities
Additional services intended to be established

A section to specifically cater for students with disabilities. We plan to do this through linkages with NGOs and other Institutions that work with people with disabilities and try to supplement the school efforts in providing appropriate facilities for the category of Students. The office facilitates government sponsored students’ with disabilities in terms of Helpers facilitation and an allowance on recommendation from the School Doctor. Where necessary however, the Dean of Students acts as a liaison between students and the faculties, administrators and advocates for the rights of the students’ with disabilities. Services granted normally include: more time offered during examinations and tests, provision of wheelchairs, interpreters and helpers among others. DEPARTMENTAL SECTIONS

The Students’ Guild

The Students Guild is the apex of the Students’ Organizations dealing with the welfare of the students and other activities. The Guild works closely with the school administration and this is mostly through the students’ Guild Executive which is democratically elected by the whole students’ community and serves for one academic year. The students’ leadership is constituted of the Guild Leaders, headed by the Guild President as Head of Cabinet, and Guild Speaker as Head of the Legislature. These are elected by the Students’ in free and fair elections. The Guild aims at creating a stable and effective student’s leadership focused on client, societal and School community needs. The students’ Guild leadership is governed by the constitution of the Makerere University Business School, students’ Guild and it is semi autonomous financially. The Guild plans activities with the sole aim of serving the students’ Community. The school through the Dean of students supports these activities. That means that, the Guild Executive works in partnership with the school management to administer the Students community. The students’ guild organizes and coordinates school-wide students’ activities, liaises with student unions and their affiliated societies, and provides assistance and advice for various student functions as well as leadership training and other activities. Students participate in several activities throughout the year, such as Freshers’ Orientation Week, cultural gala, Miss MUBS, Health Week, Keep Nakawa Clean, among others. The Guild supports each activity with staffing support and finances. Counseling Section

The Counseling section is headed by a full time School Counselor whose role is to offer counseling services to the students and staff in the school. The services vary from cases concerning emotional disorders, academic stress, and personal. Social, relationships, problems with parents and guardians, marital problems and financial problems among others. On average, a total of 20 clients are counseled in a month. The section also carries out training in peer counseling for students and HIV/AIDS awareness among others. The section also partners and collaborates with other service providers like Aides Information Center, PACE (program for Accessible Health Communication and Education), and Healing Talk Counseling Services among others. The partnerships support the section in areas of training and workshops, awareness campaigns and referrals. Sports Section

The sports section is headed by the Ag. Sports Tutor who is assisted by one Asst Sports Tutor and one Athletics Trainer who oversee the sports activities of the school, most especially for students. The staffs in the section work closely with the Students Sports Union and the Guild Ministry of sports to ensure that students actively participate in MUBS tournaments, inter-university tournaments and national tournament. The section identifies outstanding sports personalities who are given certain privileges to motivate them. The section initiates sports policy issues through its Sports Committee of Management. Dinning section

The school dinning provides meals for the government sponsored students and those privately sponsored students who are residents in the School Hostel. A total of 1,100 students get their lunch from the dinning hall and about 260 (residents in the School Hostel) also get their supper. Meals are served according to the menu worked on and issued by the Dean of Students and the Domestic Bursar. The School Menu includes Beef, Chicken, Fish, Eggs, Beans, Ground Nuts, Matooke, Posho, Irish Potatoes, Assorted Fruits and assorted vegetables among others. Berlin Hall

At the moment, the School has only one Hall, Berlin, where only female students are accommodated. The hostel has a total of 76 rooms, with a capacity of between 250 – 300 students, all female. The room allocation is done by the Room Allocation Committee, where the Dean of Students is a member. The section is currently headed by the Custodian, assisted by the Guild Minister for Ladies Affairs. If you are living in Berlin Hall, you will be part of a community of individuals of different ages, backgrounds and nationalities. The School encourages an atmosphere of tolerance and mutual respect among individuals within the residence so that all students can strike the right balance between having a good time and being able to study. The Custodian’s Office is responsible for cleaning and maintenance of the buildings, allocating rooms and collecting rents. So if you have problems relating to these areas, you need to go to there. The Custodian’s Office is responsible for the welfare and good order of students in residences. The school has a slot in the hostel for outstanding sports personalities, students with disabilities, international students and students admitted on quota system. All guild female ministers are also provided with accommodation. The hostel has a common room equipped with a TV with DSTV and some indoor games. Accommodation for Male Students

There are currently no accommodation facilities on Campus for male students. However, a project is underway to construct facilities to accommodate male students on Campus. LOCATION OF THE BUILDING

The Office of the Dean of students’ is located between Block 4 and the School Dining hall, opposite the Entrepreneurship Center. The Dean of Students office Block also houses Offices of the School Resident Engineer, Students Records, and the School Counselor.
