Our new, expanded, and innovative Fellowship program will include a cohort of 24 Fellows across three levelsโ12 scholars or practitioners as Non-Resident Research Fellows, 5 Graduate Fellows, and 7 Junior Undergraduate Fellowsโwho will workshop their research, engage in mentoring/coaching, and work throughout the year (with initial strategy meetings in late 2026) on this year's theme: โPractical Deterrence and Global Stability during Strategic Transition."
The Fellows will work together to distill theory on stable deterrence relationships to a set of principles, illustrate and validate them in historical case studies, and apply to current challenges.
The work produced will form the basis of the Global & National Security Symposium in late August, after which the Fellows will finalize their work for publication in an anthology/edited volume (aka a book with different authors for each chapter).
We seek scholars and practitioners with research or practical experience related to deterrence, escalation, and stability (broadly defined).
For the Student-Fellows, we see UNM students who are looking for a career in public service in the security sector with a minimum of one foundational research methods course to apply.
