The NM Beta chapter at the University of New Mexico was honored to host Tau Beta Pi's 119th Convention! Hundreds of delegates from around the world joined together in Albuquerque, New Mexico to represent their chapters in making decisions to guide the future of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. The event was filled with professional development, networking, and social activities. The convention also provided a wonderful site for our chapter's initiation ceremony where we welcomed our newest members!

Two Saturdays each year, the Trinity Site on White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico opens to the public for tours. An historic location, this was the site of the first human-caused nuclear detonation on July 16th, 1945. This Fall, Tau Bates from The University of New Mexico - UNM and the UTEP - The University of Texas at El Paso planned a tour of the site, which included a visit to ground zero as well as the McDonald ranch house where the plutonium core was assembled.

This weekend, the NM Beta chapter of Tau Beta Pi participated in one of the most exciting Albuquerque traditions, the 51st Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Volunteers from our Tau Beta Pi chapter at the University of New Mexico volunteered at one of the official Balloon Fiesta merchandise tents on Saturday evening, while also raising funds to support our chapter.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, held annually in early October, is one of the most photographed events in the world. It draws more than 800,000 visitors, significantly exceeding the total population of Albuquerque (and a large fraction of our state population!).

While traveling through New Mexico along I-25, watch for our adopted mile of highway between Albuquerque and Los Lunas. Each year, Tau Bates from the University of New Mexico volunteer time to beautify our state and community through the Adopt-a-Highway litter control program. Thank you to our members and advisors who spent their Saturday morning making our world a cleaner, greener place.
