Not everything we grow is ready right now, and that’s part of the story.

This vineyard is in its second year, and as with great things in wine, it takes time. These vines are still establishing, building strength before they ever produce fruit.

Recently, we added Clarion, one of the newest cold-hardy grape varieties, to the mix. It’s designed for Midwest growing conditions, and we’re excited to see what it becomes.

Wine doesn’t happen overnight.
But what’s coming next? It’s worth the wait.

🎙️🍺 Meet the brewer behind the beer

Our head brewer, Stacy Groene, an Iowa State alum, was recently featured on The Vorlauf Hour, a craft brewing podcast supported by the Iowa Brewers Guild.

In the episode, he shares insights into brewing, the craft beer industry in Iowa, and the work happening right here on campus.

It’s a great listen if you’re interested in what goes into the beer you’re seeing around Ames, and beyond.

From vineyard to winery, this is where La Crescent starts to take shape 👀

After harvest, these cold-hardy grapes move into processing, where we begin transforming what’s grown at Iowa State into the wines you’ll find locally.

It’s one step in a longer process, but it’s where everything begins to come together.

Meet La Crescent

Another grape grown right here in Iowa, La Crescent is a cold-hardy varietal that thrives in Midwest climates and brings something a little different to the table.

So what can you expect?
🍑 Bright, fruit-forward character
🍊 Notes of citrus + stone fruit
🌼 Light, aromatic, and refreshing

It’s one of the varieties grown at the Iowa State University Horticulture Research Station, and a key part of our Cyclone Grown wines 🌪️
