I just found out today that we lost a beloved member of the Cracker Company. Matt Kirch passed away in his sleep recently. He is seen here standing on the far left. He was originallly our corporal; and then later our First Sergeant, inheriting the job from his father Ed. Matt had fallen on hard time recently and was living in a homeless shelter in Huntsville and had a bad drinking problem. He was still a young man and it pains me that I didn't know how bad things were for him as I had not spoken with him in a couple years. Please feel free to post memories of Matt.

On a last minute whim as the event we were going to go to was rained out, we decided to pack our bags and head to Andersonville, GA. We were welcomed with open arms and they let us camp actually in the prison compund (a few ghost stories came out of that). We also did a candlelight tour of the cemetery for the public. Great time and a somber place for the POW Memorial Museum.

CLASS REUNION - NOVEMBER 7 & 8, 2015

Dear former Cracker Company men and Red Ribbons gals,

We are going to have a reunion for all members of the Cracker Company and the Red Ribbon Ladies the weekend of November 7 & 8 of this year. This includes all former students, NCO’s, and officers who participated with the Cracker Company. The reunion will be held in the Chattanooga area.

The tentative plan is to get together Saturday the 7th and spend the afternoon together doing an activity (tour of Chickamauga, or related activity) then we will have dinner together Saturday afternoon/evening. This will be followed by a campfire at the campground where we will enjoy each other’s company and stories while making bad coffee and enjoying treats. Those who wish to camp out will be welcome, but it is not mandatory. Sunday late morning we will all get together for a brunch somewhere to be determined to say our farewells.

As for “dressing out,” those who have kits/dresses (guys and gals) and want to dress out are welcome to do so, but don’t feel obligated to. We know that the majority of you will not have a kit, so dress the way you feel most comfortable. I am sure a few of us will dress out for old times’ sake.

We will be reaching out to every former student and participant via this site as well as through Southern’s Alumni Office as well as personal phone calls from myself and Sherrie. A more detailed timeline of activities and schedule will be coming a bit later, but for now, if you think you will be able to come, please post your interest here. It will be great to see so many of you once again after all this time and I look forward to hearing from many of you soon.

Warmest regards,
“Captain” Craig Hadley

Southern Adventist University asked the Cracker Company and Red Ribbon Ladies to join in the evening festivities of College Days. A period band played while the class taught prospective students period dances. During the day we were available for questions.
