General information
Bio As a little girl, Salayna could be found standing at the oven and peaking into the stove as her grandmother made cakes for the family reunions. Although she liked to lick the spoon, as did any little girl her age, she always stuck around to see the finished product. Her interest was in how the sweet masterpiece was made. So she decided at a very early age that she would become a chef! As she grew older, home economics classes were what captivated her interests most. Also during her High School years she took up wilton cake decorating classes where she learned the basics of cake decorating. While participating in her high schools’ Hotel Internship course, a Johnson & Wales University recruiter came to speak to her class. By February of her senior year Salayna applied to Johnson & Wales University’s Baking and Pastry Arts program, the top school of her choice, and was accepted! During the summer after her senior year of high school, a college level dining room course was not enough to quench her desire to break into the pastry field. After two years Salayna had now acquired an associate’s degree in Baking and Pastry Arts from Johnson & Wales University’s Denver campus and was off to Florida for a three month internship with Walt Disney World. There she learned the skills of mass production and gained experience in a five star restaurant on Disney’s Board Walk resort. Then it was off to Rhode Island to go after her bachelor’s degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. Soon she would find herself traveling back to Colorado! This degree program also provided her experience with a privately owned Bakery Gateaux Specialty Cakes and Pastries. Here she learned the ins and outs of business ownership as well as practical baking and contemporary cake decorating skills. Upon graduating in May of 2008 with her Bachelors Degree, Salayna Returned home to Texas and began putting her learned skills to practice at super Target bakery as a cake decorator. On October 6th 2008, Salayna made a trip down to the court house and filed her business name with the county! Officially placing Sweethearth on the map. This was the first step to making her sweet dreams come true. After testing her skills with friends and family the word spread amongst other family members and their co-workers which would soon lead to her first wedding cake opportunity! Many sweet confections and cup cakes later, it’s on to the next phase of business. Cakes design possibilities are endless, so let’s get together and make your sweet dreams come true!
