Brethren Academy

Brethren Academy is an opportunity for HS students to grapple with questions about faith, life, and calling among peers and experienced ministry leaders.

Brethren Academy was founded (with the support of Lilly Endowment Inc.) to help young students better understand how faith and theology shape their everyday lives. They’ll get a chance to explore their life calling, grow deeper in faith, form lasting friendships, and get a taste of the college experience that may inspire them for something more. Students will hear from university and seminary facu

lty as well as successful ministry leaders serving in various fields (church, business, missions, etc.). While here, students will also get the opportunity to learn from financial counselors and career specialists to gain useful resources for their next steps in life.

Brethren Academy Day 2 Recap

Students dug into Spiritual Gifts discovering that they are grace gifts from God that helps us engage in His work in the world. We learned that Brethren discern these gifts through the Bible, insights from community leaders and prayerful self reflection and then spent time practicing these discerning ways. We also heard from Scott Soden about our Global Partners and internship opportunities available for our students, traveled to to hear how God’s gifts can be used in vocational ministry, and listened to Brethren leaders talk about identity in our BA panel and spiritual gifts panel. We’re rounding out the night by meeting in mentor groups to talk through our spiritual gifts inventory, sharing the Jesus we see in each other, and praying over one another.

Day 2 has been full of sweet moments where the Lord has been revealing himself to us and His Spirit’s moving in mighty ways.

Our first full day of Brethren Academy 2025 is complete. Students and mentors met with faculty and staff for coffee, visited the Brethren Church and peeked in the archives, toured , spent time with the staff, and dug into our Anabaptist and Pietists roots while exploring our theme of Identity.
Teaching, mentor huddles, fellowship, prayer, and worship guiding our students to lean in to what the Lord has for them this weekend.

Day 3 recap: God was on the move today and speaking to the hearts of our students, mentors, and leaders. We heard powerful words of how kingdom witness is lived out in marketplace ministries and through those who sojourner with our Brethren tribe. There were times of laughter, times of prayer and reflection, and rich blessings in hearing our students and mentors share their stories of God’s faithfulness in their own lives.

Our first full day of Brethren Academy is in the books! We toured AU, visited the Brethren Church national office, had lunch with faculty and staff at Ashland Theological Seminary, worshiped, and was taught about why our story matters.
Students were challenged to begin crafting their testimony by identifying a time where God met you in your story!

We rejoice in all the ways God has already met us here and look forward with anticipation to how He will move tomorrow. Join us in praying for another fantastic day tomorrow!
