Faculty researchers Kelly McCall from the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and Douglas Goetz from the Russ College of Engineering and Technology have received a $100,000 grant to investigate possible treatments for mitigating the severity of COVID-19.

McCall and Goetz will measure how effective a number of different chemical compounds are at preventing “cytokine storms,” a sometimes-fatal complication that can stem from COVID-19 infections.

In a short period of time, the planning team for the annual OHIO Student Expo successfully moved the event from the Convocation Center to social media.

Ohio University is accepting nominations for its 2020-21 Presidential Research Scholars awards program until 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 23.

The program is targeted to faculty members who have garnered national and international prominence in research, scholarship and creative activity and who demonstrate clear promise for continued, significant productivity in their research/creative activity.

Ohio University’s Innovation Center has focused its efforts in the last several weeks on helping local entrepreneurs navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and response.

“In this situation, the Innovation Center’s mission to provide business services, resources, flexible facilities and programming, resulting in a prosperous region, is more important than ever,” said Stacy Strauss, director of the Innovation Center. “This pandemic has already expedited and made more urgent the global shift toward the innovation economy.”
