UGA Bird Banding Cooperative (UGA-BBC)

I. Purpose
○ The purpose of UGA-BBC is to create research, outreach, educational, and training opportunities for students and public entities with unique hands-on experiences of local avian species in the greater Athens-Clarke area. Mission Statement
○ Provide University of Georgia stu

dents and other affiliated parties the opportunity to gain bird banding experience, foster future generations of environmental stewardship, and maintain a long-term database of avian monitoring in northeast Georgia. Objectives
○ To obtain mark-recapture data of passerines for determining possible migration stopover site fidelity
○ To determine passerine species/age class composition of Beachaven property during fall and spring migration
○ To train individuals on extraction, handling, banding, and measuring methods for future projects and/or careers
○ To offer local students the opportunity to learn about avian conservation and appreciation for all wildlife
○ To unite a variety of interest groups through cooperative avian monitoring projects and long-term conservation goals
