This past Saturday(April 18, 2026), Brothers from Delta Mu Mu, recognizing the emotional toll that caring for a sick or injured child places on families, participated in providing meals and fellowship to those temporarily residing at Ronald McDonald House, located near Scottish Rite Hospital. “Social action” is not just lip service; it’s at the heart of DMM’s enduring commitment to serving the community.

For this last day of Black History Month, we salute…you!

✨The community organizers, the teachers (in and out of the classroom), the everyday mentors, the parents who push and prod and rejoice and lift up. Your impact may not be recorded, your name may never be known world-wide, but your actions, your work, in the lives of the next generation of black men and women, is immeasurable and noted. You are heroes. You make Black History! Thank you!

✨ Biographical Snapshot
Born July 2, 1908 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Charles “Teenie” Harris became one of the most important photographers of the 20th century. He documented everyday Black life in Pittsburgh’s Hill District with dignity, style, and pride. 🌄 July 2, 1908 | 🌅 June 12, 1998

✨ Education & Early Path
Harris did not follow a traditional academic path in photography. He learned through experience—first working in his family’s hotel business before fully stepping behind the lens. His training came from the community itself, sharpening his eye through lived experience and cultural immersion.

✨ Notable Achievements
📷 Staff photographer for the Pittsburgh Courier, one of the most influential Black newspapers in America
🎶 Captured legends like Duke Ellington, Lena Horne, Jackie Robinson, and Muhammad Ali
🏀 Documented Black athletes, church life, social clubs, families, and civil rights moments
🗂 Created an archive of nearly 80,000 photographs — one of the largest visual records of Black urban life in the 20th century

✨ Legacy
Harris didn’t just take pictures — he affirmed humanity. He showed Black excellence in everyday moments. Weddings. Graduations. Jazz nights. Community pride.

Because of him, generations can see themselves in history.

And every month is Black History Month.

On this 26th day of Black History Month we honor Bro. Major Robert H. Lawrence Jr., PhD, (ΞΕ, ‘53).

✨A pioneer who broke barriers as the first Black astronaut. Born October 2, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, Lawrence was selected for the U.S. Air Force’s Manned Orbiting Laboratory (MOL) program, blazing a trail for future generations in aviation and space exploration.

✨A brilliant scholar, he earned his Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Bradley University at age 20 and later received a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology, exemplifying excellence in both intellect and service. Lawrence tragically died on December 8, 1967, following a jet crash at Edwards Air Force Base in California — but his legacy lives on as a powerful reminder during Black History Month of courage, achievement, and the enduring pursuit of progress.

And every month is Black History Month!

On this 25th day of Black History Month, we honor Clarence Avant — the master strategist known as the “Black Godfather,” whose influence quietly shaped some of the biggest careers in music history.

✨ Strategic Power Moves in Music
Avant built leverage where others saw limits. As founder of Sussex Records, he structured distribution deals that protected artists’ earnings and publishing. He later became one of the first Black executives to head a major label imprint (Venture Records under CBS) and eventually served as chairman of Motown Records, strengthening executive leadership during pivotal industry shifts.

✨ How He Helped Michael Jackson
Behind the scenes, Avant played a quiet but critical advisory role in the career of Michael Jackson. During the Jacksons’ transition from Motown to Epic Records in the mid-1970s, Avant used his industry relationships to help facilitate introductions and strategic positioning within CBS Records. His guidance helped ensure the group — and later Michael as a solo artist — had access to stronger contractual opportunities and executive support at Epic, where Off the Wall and Thriller would later be released.

Avant’s influence extended to supporting the partnership between Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones, a collaboration that would redefine global pop music. He understood that aligning the right producer, label power, and creative freedom could shift culture worldwide.

✨ Negotiation Philosophy
Avant negotiated from relationship capital. He believed ownership, publishing, and long-term equity mattered more than short-term applause. He moved in boardrooms so artists could move on stages — freely and profitably.
