Christopher L. Augostini, Emory’s current executive vice president and chief operating officer, has been elected by a unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees to serve as the university’s 22nd president. He will take office Sept. 1.

“I’m extraordinarily honored and thrilled to be named Emory’s next president,” Augostini says. “As I look across the higher education landscape, I believe Emory is positioned better than any other university to meet our current challenges and opportunities. I look forward to beginning this new chapter in partnership with faculty, the board, students, staff and the entire Emory community.”

Sheila Cavanagh, professor of English, connects food history with literature, both in her Maymester course on how people prepared food 400 years ago in England and in her forthcoming book, "Cooking with Shakespeare."

"Shakespeare is wonderful, and Shakespeare can be intimidating," says Cavanagh. "But looking at the food prepared in Shakespeare’s time can be a great entry point."

They’ve done it again — bringing home their third national championship after an amazing performance at the 2026 NCAA Championships in Palm Desert, California.

Big cheers for Emory's Zimo Li, 2026 WGCA Division III National Player of the Year, and standout first-year Amanda Zheng, who both finished tied for seventh.

Last month, Emory College students delivered a dynamic African dance performance, showcasing the skills and dedication developed under the guidance of Theresa Howard. Throughout the spring semester, they explored diverse dance styles from West and Central Africa, gaining a deeper appreciation for the artistry and cultural significance each movement represents.

Howard, whose career in dance spans over 40 years, reflects: “Dance in Africa is not just an art form, but a vibrant, essential thread woven through community, culture, tradition, and ritual.”

The Guggenheim Foundation was created in 1925 by U.S. Sen. Simon Guggenheim and his wife, Olga Guggenheim, in memory of their son, John Simon, and has granted more than $450 million in fellowships to more than 19,000 individuals breaking new ground in the creative arts, natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and a range of interdisciplinary fields.
