Gwinnett Technical College is partnering with Georgia Quick Start and Socomec to help train nearly 300 employees for a new advanced manufacturing facility in Suwanee. This partnership will provide workforce training today and create opportunities for future graduates tomorrow.

Another year of excellence for Gwinnett Tech’s Radiologic Technology program! 🎉

The Class of 2026 continues to raise the bar, achieving outstanding results on the national American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam. All 22 graduates passed the national registry exam, with an impressive average score of 90% — consistently outperforming the national average across all testing categories.

The program also maintains its strong track record of student success beyond graduation, with over 80% job placement reported as of May 22 and a history of 100% job placement within six months for more than five consecutive years.

Gwinnett Technical College awarded more than 700 degrees, diplomas, and certificates during its 2026 Commencement Ceremony on May 12 at Gas South Arena, marking the largest graduating class in the college’s history.

President Dr. D. Glen Cannon presided over the ceremony, which honored graduates from a wide range of academic programs, including healthcare, engineering, computer science, and culinary arts. Psychology Program Director Tracey Duck, Gwinnett Tech’s Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year, delivered the commencement address.

“Graduates, you are part of the largest class in the history of Gwinnett Technical College,” Cannon said. “This spring semester, you were joined by more than 12,700 fellow students, and we are grateful that you chose GTC to be part of your personal and professional journey.”

Many graduates balanced full-time jobs, family responsibilities, and financial hardship while completing their education. Cannon praised their perseverance and determination.

“Our graduates met adversity head-on and, through sheer will and self-determination, pushed through every barrier,” Cannon said. “Today, they are ready to stake their claim to great careers, launch their own businesses, and take control of their destiny.”

Last week, Gwinnett Tech’s Human Resources team hosted a series of events for State Employee Appreciation Week! The events celebrated our faculty and staff for their hard work and dedication to our campus and community.

Faculty and staff enjoyed sweet treats and lemonade, wore fun-themed T-shirts and team jerseys, and relaxed, played games, and connected with coworkers.

On April 30, 16 graduating students from Gwinnett Tech’s Interior Design program showcased their work at the annual Interiors Portfolio Showcase.

Students presented portfolios developed during the program, highlighting their creativity, skills, and hands-on experience in interior design. Family, friends, and industry employers attended to support and celebrate the students as they prepare to graduate.

Several students have already secured internships or job opportunities in the industry. Congratulations to these talented interior designers!

Last month, Gwinnett Technical College proudly cheered on two leaders at the state-level Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) and Rick Perkins Awards Program.

Natalee Summers, our 2026 GOAL student in the Early Childhood Care and Education program, was named a state finalist. Tracey Duck, our 2026 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year and the Psychology Program Director, also proudly represented the college.

Our senior Registered Nursing (ADN) students are gaining real-world experience beyond the classroom.

Earlier this spring, our students visited the Georgia State Capitol. They watched a House session, heard from the Governor, toured the museum, and learned how to engage with local leaders on health policy.

They also worked with LifeLink to learn about organ donation. Through lessons, personal stories, and a tour, they explored ethics, patient advocacy, and the nurse’s role in this process.

These hands-on experiences help students better understand community health, advocacy, and caring for others. We are proud of their growth as they prepare to become professional nurses and make a difference.

From Classroom to Café: Culinary Students Serve Up Success with a New Pop-Up Experience. 🧑‍🍳 🍽️

This spring semester, the Gwinnett Tech Culinary Program launched its first Pop-Up Café, offering fresh, grab-and-go lunch options at our Lawrenceville Campus every Wednesday. Developed under the guidance of Chef Kerri Crean and with support from College President Dr. Glen Cannon, the initiative has quickly become a highlight of campus life.

The Pop-Up Café project was created to support a small group of culinary students who faced challenges securing traditional internship placements due to limited employment opportunities and scheduling conflicts. This innovative on-campus internship model allows students to complete the required hours for graduation while gaining hands-on, real-world experience.

More than a solution, the café addresses a growing demand for convenient, high-quality lunch options for faculty, staff, and students. Each week, the student team takes full ownership of operations, designing a unique menu, sourcing ingredients, preparing dishes, managing service, and closing the café.

Each new menu has sparked excitement across campus, with weekly offerings ranging from Cubano sandwiches and smoked brisket plates to sausage tortellini soup and Caprese turkey-pesto wraps. The buzz continues to build as customers eagerly await each new menu reveal.

Beyond the food, the Pop-Up Café creates a space for connection—bringing the campus community together and directly supporting students on their path to graduation.

The café is led by student chefs Quincy Prothro, Claudia Vasquez, and Carol Espinoza, alongside Chef Crean and Adjunct Instructor Jose Martinez, whose mentorship makes this experience a true stepping stone for future culinary careers.
