Dr. Tim Mercer and Dr. Audrey Kuang are making a big difference in Austin with Central Health's Bridge Clinic. This clinic, which started in June 2024, provides essential medical care to homeless patients, helping them avoid unnecessary emergency room visits.

Both Dr. Mercer and Dr. Kuang ensure that patients receive comprehensive care, including mental health and substance abuse support. The clinic works with Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services to bring patients directly to the clinic for treatment.

Their dedication is helping bridge the gap between hospital admissions and safe recovery spaces, addressing chronic conditions among the homeless community.

Instead of taking people to the emergency room, Bridge Clinic and a mobile Bridge Clinic provide health care in ways homeless patients can access it.

Dr. Sherine Salib attended a reunion for AAIM-CDIM Council Members at the annual Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine 2025 Conference. AAIM, a national body, promotes the advancement and professional development of educational leaders in Internal Medicine. Dr. Salib was elected as an AAIM Council Member in 2023 and is currently serving a 3-year term as Councilor.

As one of the first graduates from Dell Medical School, Dr. Wagen has been making a significant impact in the Austin community through her work in Central Health's Supportive and Palliative Care team. Dr. Brooke Wagen was one of 50 graduates in the first-ever class at Dell Medical School in 2020. She now works inside Central Health’s Supportive and Palliative Care department.

The abdominal transplant center at Dell Seton Medical Center established in November 2021, performed its first transplant in February 2022. Since then, they have completed 76 kidney transplants and 48 living donor nephrectomies. Currently, 154 patients are on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. The program has received significant support, with over 2000 transplant candidates and 400 living donor referrals.

Recently, they celebrated the grand opening of their new transplant center on the first floor of Dell Seton Medical Center. The event featured many key contributors and honored a recipient-donor couple who are husband and wife.

The center aims to continue providing high-quality, academically driven transplant care to Central Texas, ensuring patients receive specialized care locally.

Dell Seton Medical Center opened a new, expanded clinic for its Adult Abdominal Transplant Center, which aims to provide hundreds more kidney transplants to patients in the coming years.
