Tomorrow, Chief of Police Katy Potts will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Bellingham Bells’ Juneteenth Celebration at Joe Martin Field. A former collegiate softball player, Chief Potts was invited in recognition of her leadership and commitment to serving both the Western and Whatcom County communities.

“It is an honor to represent Western and celebrate Juneteenth with the Bellingham Bells. The spirit of our campus, with its commitment to equity and community, is represented in moments like this. We all have a responsibility to honor history and keep moving forward together,” Potts said.

Join us Friday, June 19, at 6:35 p.m. to cheer on Chief Potts as she throws out the ceremonial first pitch, then stay for an evening celebrating community and Black culture with the Bellingham Bells.

Bill Nye the Science Guy!!! 🧪🥼✨

Three students traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate for NASA funding alongside The Planetary Society—and got the chance to meet one of science’s most iconic champions along the way.

While Bill Nye’s presence was an inspiring reminder of the countless people he’s encouraged to pursue science, the students said meeting him ended up being just a footnote in their day. The real highlight was meeting with legislators, advocating for scientific research and helping shape the future of space exploration.

If you haven’t eaten at Lupe’s Situ Tacos in Ballard: Don’t walk; run.

Owned by Fairhaven College alum Lupe Flores, Lupe's Situ Tacos was recently named one of Esquire's 33 best new restaurants in the United States. But behind the accolades is a story about family, community, and honoring the people who shape us.

Named after her grandmother, who taught her to cook at just 3 years old, Lupe's vibrant Mexican-Lebanese taqueria is a love letter to the generations, traditions, and relationships that helped make it possible.
