Congratulations to Groesbeck P. Parham, M.D.,'81 2026 recipient of the MAA's Martha Myers Role Model Award that recognizes physician alumni who make great contributions to patient care and the medical profession and often go unheralded.
Shaped by his experiences during the Civil Rights Movement in Birmingham, Dr. Parham has devoted his work to advancing cancer prevention for underserved communities. From establishing early clinics for women with HIV to leading transformative cervical and breast cancer screening efforts, his impact has been global. Since 2005, he has served in Zambia as a professor, researcher, and national leader in women’s cancer prevention, helping build programs that have screened more than 1.9 million women. Now a Senior Clinical Expert with the World Health Organization, Dr. Parham continues to lead worldwide efforts to eliminate cervical cancer through medicine, advocacy, and service. His son, Dr. Karlos Parham, joined us in March to accept the award on his behalf.
