Her leave of absence from a tenured position as an Associate Professor of Communication, Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne, transformed her career from educator to entrepreneur. Since 1996, she has served on the Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees, currently as Clerk. EDUCATION
She is a graduate of Groves High School, Marygrove College (B.A.) and Wayne State University, (M.A. and

In the office of Clerk, Jan serves Bloomfield Township as the Director of Elections overseeing an electorate of more than 32,000 voters. She is the chief record keeper and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Coordinator, with responsibilities for coodinating the Board of Trustees and lake board meetings as well as issuing voter registrations, passports, permits and licenses. As an elected official, she is a voting member of the Board of Trustees. ACCREDITATIONS & AWARDS
Jan is a Master Municipal Clerk and a Certified Michigan Municipal Clerk. The Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks (MAMC) awarded her Township Clerk of the Year in 2012. Secretary of State Ruth Johnson appointed Jan to U.S. Election Assistance Commission Standards Board in 2011 and again in 2015. In 2016, the Women Officials Network Foundation honored Jan as WONder Woman of the Year. Her numerous commendations include proclamations from her local Board of Trustees, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, her State House Representative, State Senator, and the Governor of Michigan, Rick Snyder.
