The Alpha Alpha Rho chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was chartered on the campus of Appalachian State University on May 1, 1992. Charles Stephens (Chuck) urged the state office to allow a charter be enacted upon Appalachians campus. It was his idea that a graduate chapter should flourish in Boone and from there the seeed to establish an undergraduate chapter would be planted. Stephens lo
ng to identify young men who had the same vision as he. From his tireless efforts, 12 young men strong (including Bro. Stephens), crossed the burning sands into Sigma Land! We accumulated numerous awards; both by individual brothers and as an organization. We were recognized as an organization of distinction by the Appalachian campus for having: highest GPA (2 consecutive years 1994 and 1995). We won numerous step shows both on ASUs campus and off the mountain.
1998 was the last time Phi Beta Sigma took part in Membership Intake until that 0f 2009. Anthony Brumfield from Rho Gamma Chapter, Bro. Jason Thompson from Rho Beta Chapter, and Bro. Eric Hart, Alumni of Alpha Alpha Rho came together to replenish what had been gone for about 10 years. Appalachian State University experienced the Resurrection of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Alpha Alpha Rho on March 19, 2009
Since our intrepid return to campus the Brothers of the Alpha Alpha Rho Chapter have sought to regain esteem as a chapter of excellence. Within this short return the AAP Chapter has worked tirelessly in every aspect of Greek life. We have proudly been recognized as NPHC Fraternity of the Year and Homecoming Step Show Champions for the 2009-2010 school year. We have also garnered the highest GPA among NPHC Fraternities. It is the hope of these fearless brothers that these accomplishments are just the preface of the new regime of Sigma on the ASU Campus.
