In the wake of Winter Storm Fern, the needs of many of our The University of Mississippi - Ole Miss students are dire. Today our board held an emergency vote to use funds we raised this year to donate to Rebel Relief Disaster Fund so that our impact can most directly go straight to the students in need. Thank you to all our constituents who contributed to our Ole Miss Club of Boston general fund this year and trusted us to direct those funds prudently in your honor.
This need is real and urgent. Please consider donating to the Rebel Relief Disaster Fund and share this information widely (https://ignite.olemiss.edu/project/49248). If you would like to donate in honor of our Ole Miss Alumni Association club you can either state โOle Miss Club of Bostonโ as the honoree when you make your donation or Venmo us (-walker-14) and we will make another joint donation in honor of the club.
From Ole Miss Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs:
โThe visible damage to our campusโ beautiful landscape is sad to see, but the impact on our students remains even more concerning. As of this morning, more than 700 students have submitted requests for relief support. These requests reflect real and immediate needs. The average request is approximately $380, and while awards typically do not exceed $500, every request is carefully reviewed and considered. Our students are not asking for more than they need; they are asking for help to get through this moment. The most common requests for support are immediate and essential: food, water and maintaining stable housing as many students are unable to work due to limited business operations across the community. At the same time, many of these same students are volunteering throughout Oxford and surrounding areas, offering help to others even as they face their own challenges.โ
