Big news — we have a new name!

The Multidisciplinary Graduate Engineering (MGEN)
The unit is now the Software Engineering & Information
Systems (SEIS) unit at Northeastern University’s
College of Engineering.

While our name has evolved, our commitment to
innovation, collaboration, and student success
remains the same.

A new chapter begins — and we’re excited for
What’s ahead? 🐾

🌟 Yashika Lodh, MS in Software Engineering Systems · Northeastern University · Boston

Yashika has always wanted to build things people could actually feel ,long before she knew what software engineering was. 🛠️✨

At her co-op with Aikreate, she architected the exercise validation engine and a Singleton-based system for a visual coding platform for middle and high school students, controlling exactly which blocks students see at each stage of learning. 👩‍💻
Watching a 13-year-old wait for their turtle graphic to move, and knowing she'd be the one fixing whatever broke is, as she puts it, "a kind of pressure no classroom prepares you for."

But watching students use what she built in live bootcamp sessions? The most rewarding work she's ever done. 🙌
Outside of code, her dream is to one day open her own café —quiet, beautifully designed, a place where people slow down. The same instinct that drives her engineering drives her there too: building spaces people genuinely enjoy being in.

🌟 Chenyan Zhu, MS in Information Systems Bridges · Northeastern University · Boston

Before NEU, Chenyan spent over four years in Tokyo's IT industry, at IBM and Accenture ,building a strong foundation in enterprise technology and real business systems. 🗼💼

She came to Northeastern to go deeper: to strengthen her CS foundation, stay current with emerging technologies, and explore the growing intersection of her industry experience and AI. 🤖

At NEU, she independently built a cloud computing project from scratch, and found something she didn't expect: a community of talented, diverse classmates who pushed her to think bigger and grow further. 🤝☁️

Her long-term goal? To use technology to genuinely improve people's lives, building products and systems that are actually helpful. 💡

Oh, and she's a dedicated Toad and Toadette fan 🍄 ,Mario games are her favorite way to recharge after a long week!

In honor of Star Wars Day, here's a message to every MGEN engineer out there 👇

🔴 Red terminal errors = the Dark Side

🟢 Green "build successful" = the Force

☕ Coffee = your lightsaber

📚 Finals season = the Battle of Endor

May your code compile on the first try, your co-op applications get responses, and your GPA stay strong. 🙏

You are the Jedi engineers the galaxy needs. 🚀⚡

From airport infrastructure to AI backend engineering — Zhiyu's journey is anything but ordinary. ✈️⚡

Before NEU, Zhiyu spent 6.5 years at Beijing Daxing International Airport, home to the world's largest single-building airport terminal. She joined during construction, helped build the airport's core information systems from the ground up, led SAP/ERP integration across 20+ subsystems, and managed 150+ digital transformation projects.

Then she made a deliberate pivot. She left a stable career to pursue what she was increasingly drawn to: AI and modern software engineering.
Now as a backend co-op at a Stealth AI Startup in Boston, she's contributing to a GenAI platform that auto-generates software tests from documentation. Her async pipeline refactor alone brought P95 latency down from 12 minutes to 7. 🔥
"Pivoting isn't about letting go. It's about repacking your bags — deciding what to keep, what to add, and what to move around — then keep going."
We love having you in the MGEN community, Zhiyu! 🐾
