Spending time with Kim McCabe behind-the-scenes at the New England Aquarium

Kim recently spent over a month on a sailing research expedition in the Pacific Ocean to study the “Garbage Patch”—an area twice the size of Texas that has become a “plastic soup”.

Here’s a sample showing what our oceans around the world have become, filled with plastic that has physically broken down (this is NOT biodegradation) into little particles that get mistaken for plankton and enter the food stream (all the way up to us!) with devastating and toxic effects.

You can find Kim’s blog about her expedition and see more pictures here: http://explorers.neaq.org/search/label/Pacific2012

Reduce Reuse Recycle REINVENT!
