For Saurav Ghosh, research didnโt start with a big idea, it started with a spark of curiosity in one of Dr. Reshmi Mitraโs classes at SEMO.
A class discussion on access control systems and a platform called myEMATES got him thinking about how digital access could be better managed. That small moment turned into a big direction for his academic life.

Sauravโs work focuses on using blockchain technology to secure decentralized networks; think of it like helping devices talk to each other safely, without relying on a central authority.
By designing smart contracts and access control frameworks, his research is especially important for areas like Internet of Things (IoT), where privacy and security are critical.
In simple terms: heโs working to make our connected world more trustworthy and secure.

Research isnโt always easy. There were tough days, confusing papers, failed experiments, and the feeling of starting over again and again.
But Saurav found his rhythm:

He also found support in SEMOโs SPARK Lab, where weekly sessions with fellow grad students turned research into a team effort.

One of the biggest influences in Sauravโs journey? Dr. Reshmi Mitra.
She didnโt just guide his research - she encouraged him to believe in himself. Two lessons from her still stick with him:

Saurav is now starting his PhD at Washington University in St. Louis, and it still feels a bit surreal to him.
