SIU Rover Design

SIU Rover Design Our mission is to build a human powered vehicle and race it at the annual NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge in Huntsville, Alabama.

Every year NASA sponsors a race, The Human Exploration Rover Challenge, in honor of the Moonbuggy which was driven on the moon. The competition challenges teams from around the world to build a human powered vehicle which can navigate a 3/4 mile obstacle course which simulates lunar terrain. The vehicle must also fold into a five foot cube. Building the Moonbuggy is a fantastic way for engineering

students to hone their design skills, work as a team, and learn advanced fabrication methods. Feel free to contact us at [email protected]

Donations are greatly appreciated and are used to cover material and transportation costs.

Bryce and Jackson, two of our members, visited Schlarman Academy over winter break to talk to their 6th grade students about STEM. They helped them set up their 3D printer and they showed them how to use TinkerCAD.

Thank you to Schlarman Academy for letting us come and talk to your amazing 6th graders!

Thank you Schlarman Academy for working with us to meet with the middle schoolers to talk about what engineering is, STEM, and the the Rover Design team! We were excited to speak with them about our experiences so far and the engineering design process. We were able to meet with the classes over Microsoft Teams but are working with the school to do some in person events during the next few months.

The classes are working on designing a liquid retrieval tool for us to use at the competition! We are going to work with their designs and work on 3D modeling them. The team is looking forward meeting (this time in person) again with them over the break to teach them TinkerCAD and 3D printing.
