Astronomy class went out Wednesday night and saw the observatory. They looked at the moon, Jupiter and its Galilean moons, and the Great Orion Nebula (M-42) with the university's 10" Dobsonian telescope. This image of the moon was taken later with the 14" Celestron telescope using Starizona Hyperstar.

The larger galaxy on the right is Messier 81 (a.k.a. NGC 3031) known as Bode's Galaxy, a grand design spiral galaxy about 12 million light years away. The smaller galaxy on the left is Messier 82 (NGC 3034) the Cigar Galaxy. We see the two galaxies in the same (cropped) image because they only about 150,000 light years apart.
