Well now that is only the 5th 97° or higher value in May on record for Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). Also the earliest 97° on record(1887-Curr).

Back to Back 94° days for Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). A pretty rare occurrence and has not happened since 2019 and only the 12th time since 1887.. Since 1953 this is only the 4th time..

As we enter into the last 20 days of Spring across the southeast there are a few stations on pace for the driest March-April-May on record.

It's been a dry start to 2026 across the Southeast. This past month did not help as it one of the drier Aprils on record (in one case the driest ever on this list of locations). For several locations, the total precipitation for January through April of this year ranks as the driest 4 month such period ever recorded.

Even though today was not warm in the East, many areas had one of the highest number if not the highest ever number of days ever this April on record where the temperature reached at least 80 degrees for a high! A few areas also saw one of their greater numbers of days in April that reached at least 90 degrees.

Even though we are expecting at least some chance of rain, pretty much every day this week, drought conditions continue to develop across the area. Here is an updated look at how much rain we would need to get back to near normal.
