Seeing the need to continue the traditions of social action, community involvement, and fidelity after college, five young Kappa Men who had matriculated and graduated from various colleges, met in the winter of 1941 with the purpose of forming an alumni chapter in the Charleston area. e charter members of the Charleston SC Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. received its charter on March 10, 1945, and it is the third oldest Alumni chapter in the Fraternity’s Southeastern Province. From the onset, the Chapter became a leading entity in the Charleston community. Various events and outreach activities became the norm for the brothers of the chapter. Some of these activities were the annual Black and White Ball, the Kappa Kowboy Karnival, The Kappa Shoe Drive, and the Kappa Boat Ride. In 1960, the Kappa Troubadours singing chorale was formed. This group, composed of men from the chapter, sang at various fraternal, community, and religious functions and remains one of the stellar singing groups in the Charleston community.
