South Piedmont Community College is pleased to announce it has been invited to be part of the inaugural cohort of the North Carolina Community College Strategic Planning Institute, a year-long, blended training and coaching program tailored for rural college leaders.

The Strategic Planning Institute is a key component of the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research’s Advancing North Carolina’s Rural Workforce program, supported by a grant from Ascendium Education Group.

Beginning this summer 2026, South Piedmont Community College will begin the process of developing a strategic plan that supports the local area rural workforce and expands economic mobility for our students.

This work aligns with the North Carolina Community College System Office’s new strategic goals to 1) build the best workforce in the world; 2) align employers, students and colleges to future-ready our state’s economy; and 3) transform the NCCCS to empower our colleges and students for continuous success.

Did you know? South Piedmont offers real estate classes at a fraction of the cost of many private real estate schools in the area.

In this course, you'll learn about the real estate market, property management, contracts, appraisals, real estate law, and other key topics designed to prepare you for the North Carolina real estate license examination.

What makes South Piedmont's program especially valuable is the opportunity to learn from experienced, licensed real estate professionals who bring real-world knowledge and practical scenarios into the classroom. Over the years, many of our students have gone on to build successful careers as Realtors.

The next course runs June 17–August 12 and meets online on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.–2 p.m.

Happy National Alligator Day from South Piedmont! 💙

As the home of Al the Gator, we take our alligator appreciation seriously. In fact, South Piedmont has a little gator lore of its own.

Years ago, an alligator was discovered in the pond on our L.L. Polk Campus. The unexpected visitor, affectionately named Gator Boy, was relocated to the North Carolina Zoo, where he still lives today.

From Al the Gator to Gator Boy, we’re proud to celebrate our favorite reptiles today and every day.
