Go Grey in May!
Brain tumor awareness month!

Cerebellar mutism syndrome (CMS) is acquired in between 4-20% of children following resection of a tumor in the posterior fossa region of the brain. CMS results in a complex mix of symptoms including complete loss of speech for a period of time, ataxia, emotional liability, cognitive deficits and long term disabilities.

I am proud to serve on the executive board of the Posterior Fossa Society, an international, interdisciplinary group dedicated to research to improve the outcomes of children with CMS to help them live their best lives.

My lab is currently conducting an EEG study to learn more about the mechanisms behind this debilitating condition.

APHASIA & FATIGUE

Many people with aphasia find that fatigue greatly impacts their language disability.

Here are a few tips:

1. Pace yourself.
2. If you have several therapies in one day, schedule speech therapy first.
3. Take breaks or even a nap during the day.
