Spreading Hope by Spreading Sam

Spreading Hope by Spreading Sam Spreading suicide awareness across the globe in honor of Samuel Holmes. As a child, Sam was a normal, upbeat and happy kid. THERE IS HOPE.

Sam Holmes was a kind, caring, and quiet man who ended his own life at the young age of 19. You never would have guessed he would end up feeling the way he did. Sam was incredible at everything he tried; including every sport you could think of. His childhood friends would tell you that he could pick up something and just have the natural ability to do it well. He especially enjoyed golf and playi

ng guitar in his band. As he got older he began struggling more with his anxiety. He began withdrawing from larger events and he didn’t like being in the limelight. At about the time his high school golf team won the State Championship, it was becoming extremely hard for him to handle his anxiety and depression. He underwent counseling and was prescribed medication shortly before high school graduation. He received a scholarship to play golf to Missouri State University, close to home. Things started to look up for a while, he was making friends, he fell in love, and he was enjoying his time at college. However, the pain he was always feeling began to be too much for him. His thoughts were so distorted that he thought he was too much of a burden to those who loved him. The things he was feeling was crippling and it became harder to function. Eventually it was just too overwhelming. Sam was an incredible young man who was always thinking of others first. He possessed a good natured, and clever sense of humor. He was s deep thinker who touched many lives with his gentle, supportive demeanor. He was loved by so many people, that’s just the kind of special person he was. This page is way to bring people together and spread awareness about depression and suicide, but also to just remember Sam and keep his legacy alive. Spreading Hope by Spreading Sam is a project organized by the Holmes family and friends whose goal is to educate people around the world as well as put Sam to rest in beautiful places-places that he never got to visit himself. We are asking friends, family, as well as strangers to promote education about mental illness. Part of the goal is to spread Sam’s ashes around the world. Wherever people spread ashes, we ask that they will talk to a single person living in the area who will commit to sharing their community’s resources about suicide. We want to spread awareness about this crippling disease and end the negative stigma surrounding suicide. Many people do not understand how impossible life truly seems to a person who is experiencing depressive symptoms. It is so important to us that people know that there are options and resources for you if you have suicidal tendencies. Videos of ashes being spread and friends and family testimonials will be uploaded to this page. As well as pictures and videos of Sam when he was happiest. Please share this page and help us try and save lives by spreading the word around the world. Sam’s friends and family want nothing more than to have some good come from such a devastating situation.

YOU CANNOT HEAL WHAT YOU DO NOT SPEAK. It takes courage, perseverance and hard-work. If you’ve been thinking about it- do it!

Mental health therapy is often hard because it forces individuals to confront deeply buried, painful emotions, traumatic memories, and long-standing dysfunctional patterns. It requires extreme vulnerability, breaks down habitual mental defenses, and demands active, often uncomfortable work to change how one thinks and behaves.

HOPE is a powerful word because it's a mental power that drives action, resilience, and meaning, transforming a desire for good into motivation to achieve it, even amidst adversity, by fostering goal-setting, adaptability, and the belief that things can improve, making it essential for survival and well-being. It's more than just wishing; it's an active, agency-driven expectation that fuels endurance and helps navigate difficult times, as shown in studies where even rats survived longer when given a reason to hope for rescue.
