Union for Puerto Rican Students at UIC

Union for Puerto Rican Students at UIC UPRS is a student org that makes Puerto Rican arts, culture & history available to all students We hope you will consider joining us!

The Union of Puerto Rican Students brings awareness of Puerto Rican issues and culture to the UIC community and beyond. We meet regularly and host an annual Pa'Lante Puerto Rican Studies conference. You do not have to be Puerto Rican to join nor do you need to speak Spanish to join. Our organization works closely with the Latino Cultural Center, Latin American and Latino Studies department, and LA

RES to empower all Latinx students with the tools they need to graduate and improve their communities. Please LIKE our official page. The Union of Puerto Rican Students at UIC started as a student initiative to promote and defend the rights of Latinx students on campus. It was (and still is) used as a platform to voice the demands and concerns of Puerto Ricans and Latinx students. The organization was founded on 4 main ideals:

1. To promote and enhance the appreciation for Puerto Rican culture and history

2. To stand as an anti-imperialistic organization emphasizing the decolonization of Puerto Rico

3. To recruit and serve Latinx students who are seeking education for the benefit of the Latinx community

4. To support the struggle of Latinx working class in Chicago

Hurricane Melissa has devastated communities across Jamaica, Cuba, and Haiti, destroying homes and livelihoods, and cutting off access to food, clean water, electricity, and medical care.

The Union of Puerto Rican Students in collaboration with The Caribbean Coalition is mobilizing to meet urgent needs. Our immediate goal is to raise $20,000 to provide direct support to the most impacted communities and grassroots partners on the ground. Funds will go toward essential relief, including food, medical supplies, hygiene and menstrual products, and other critical provisions.
