I recently adjusted my buzzing routine by adding a 12 inch hose to the mouthpiece. I realized that I was adding A LOT of pressure with the mouthpiece alone! 🤯

My sound feels more resonant and the warm up routine feels easier!

It doesn’t mean that I won’t go back to mouthpiece buzzing without the tube at some point. However, it has made it clear that too much buzzing like that is not great for me!

Alright brass community, let me hear it!

I’m I doing this all wrong?! Should I forget about adding the hose? Should I abandon buzzing altogether???

A Meinl Weston Performing Artist and winner of major solo competitions including the Falcone Festival, she actively tours as a soloist, clinician, and chamber musician. Dr. Pigott holds degrees from Ithaca College and Michigan State University, earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University, and serves as Adjunct Professor of Tuba at Rowan University.

It’s always an honor to stand beside legends!

Chitate Kagawa served as principal tubist of the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra for 35 years, was a founding member of the Hokkaido Euphonium Tuba Association, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the ITEA in 2010.

There are so many additional accomplishments that I could mention but I have to acknowledge that Chitate, like me, studied at Indiana University with Mr. P (he studied with Harvey Phillips, I studied with Dan Perantoni 🙂)!

Chitate and his wife Sachiko established the Japan Tuba Center in 1988. It has become the premium destination for the world’s best instruments and mouthpieces for the tuba and euphonium community in Japan!

The Japan Tuba Center has offered Mr. P Signature Tuba Mouthpieces since 2023.
