সবাইকে বাংলা নতুন বছরের অগ্রিম শুভেচ্ছা। যদিও পৃথিবীর ওই প্রান্তে আমাদের দেশ দুটিতে সবাই নববর্ষ উদযাপন করছে।

এই শনিবার আমরা ছোট করে নববর্ষ উদযাপনের কথা ভাবছি। একটু আড্ডা, একটু গান, একটু কবিতা। আর তার সাথে খাওয়া- দাওয়াতো হতেই পারে।
Clifton Plaza তে সন্ধে ৬ টার সময় জমায়েত হয়ে কিছুক্ষন আড্ডা মারা যেতে পারে। এই উপলক্ষে আমরা একটা potluck এর আয়োজন করার ব্যাবস্থা করছি।

হাতে আমাদের সময় খুবই কম। যারা এই সপ্তাহান্তে, শনিবার বিকেলে~সন্ধ্যায় আসতে উৎসাহী তারা একবার এই পোস্টে জানাও।

২৫শে বৈশাখ।

Tagore will live on for centuries, he will be discovered and rediscovered by generations to come. His tunes are timeless, his words are eternal. A gifted artist can produce intricate, complex piece of work that becomes notable. A genius creates the most simple art that becomes ground breaking.

Tagore created some of finest Bangla tunes of all time. Wherever he got the chords from is irrelevant as the tune hits the chord of heart and soul.

Every time the flag of India is raised, every time flag of Bangladesh is raised, Tagore tune floats in the air. No other writer has achieved what Tagore has. Tagore became the soundtrack of our life's journey.

Bengali Students Association BSA at UCincinnati celebrated UC's robust multicultural students on the occasion of International Mother Language Day on 21st February 2021

The International Mother Language Day is a two-prong celebration. Worldwide celebrations honor language variety and diversity. It also commemorates the students killed during a protest in Bangladesh that happened on February 21, 1952. Bangladesh used to be East Pakistan while today’s Pakistan used to be West Pakistan. When the Dominion of Pakistan was created in 1947 through the partition of India, Bangladesh became part of Pakistan. The new nation included many linguistic and ethnic groups, most of which spoke Bengali language. The government of the Dominion of Pakistan imposed Urdu would be the official language. Since the majority of the population spoke Bengali, they wanted their language to be recognized as an official language as well. Amidst national political unrest, Bengali speakers organized the Bengali Language Movement, joined by the students of the University of Dhaka and Dhaka Medical College. At the height of the protests on February 21, 1952, police opened fire on the demonstrators, which led to the death of the students. But it took another four years before the government declared Bengali an official language in 1956.

বৃষ্টি ভেজা শরৎ আকাশ, শিউলি ফুলের গন্ধ৷ পঞ্চশস্য, পঞ্চগব্য, পঞ্চপল্লব, পঞ্চরত্ন, পঞ্চফোড়ন....পঞ্চের আরাধনায়, আসুরিক শক্তির মূলোৎপাটনে আসছেন মহালয়া মহামায়া, দূর্গতিনাশিনী বাঙ্গালির পরমা প্রকৃতি মা দূর্গা। মহালয়ার দিন কৈলাশ থেকে মা দুর্গা পিতৃগৃহে আগমন করেন। সনাতন উৎসবের হৈ-হুল্লোড় হাসি রঙে মাতোয়ারা ঢাকের তালে তিনি আসছেন। অন্যান্য ধর্মীয় প্রয়াসের মতই বাঙ্গালির দুর্গা পুজা শুধু ধর্মীয় অনুশাসন হয়, বরঞ্চ সামাজিক আর সাংস্কৃতিক আইডেন্টিটি-ও বটে।

Mahalaya is celebrated at the end of Shradh (Autumn in Bengal) ~ a 16-day period when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors. The day is considered auspicious because Goddess Durga, accompanied by her children, is believed to have stepped on planet earth on this day. It is believed that goddess Durga descended the Earth on Mahalaya which is celebrated by the Bengalis across the globe with much fervor and zeal. Durga Puja starts from the seventh day after Mahalaya and ends on the tenth day of Dashami or Dussehra. May Lordess Durga destroys all evil from your life and blesses you with a happy and prosperous future.
