Mississippi Christian University Department of Music The Mississippi Christian University Department of Music offers undergraduate and graduate programs designed to prepare students for careers in music.

The Department of Music at Mississippi College pairs a strong student body of performers with professors who are exceptional scholars and performing artists. Members of the faculty are committed to preparing their students to become successful in their respective fields by serving as mentors and advising them in their courses of study. The success of the department is demonstrated by the recruitme

nt and placement of its graduates in teaching positions and church leadership positions across the state and region. Students who go on to graduate study consistently receive graduate fellowships/assistantships and excel in their respective programs. Examples include recent winners of major regional vocal competitions and publication by major music publishers. The faculty members in the music department at Mississippi College are gifted and authoritative in their fields, while being keenly interested in the uniqueness of teaching at a liberal arts based, private university.

Please help us give a big Bearcat Welcome to Blake Glass, the new Head Choir Director at Aledo High School! šŸŽ¼šŸŽ¹

Glass has been the head choir director at Western Hills High School in the Fort Worth ISD since 2020. In his time there, he quadrupled the choir program enrollment, led 10 Texas All-State Choir members and helped the program accomplish 11 UIL Sweepstakes-winning choirs. He was also named the WHHS Teacher of the Year for 2025-2026 and has previously been the student council advisor on campus.

ā€œI am so honored and excited to join the Aledo ISD family,ā€ Glass said. ā€œAledo ISD Fine Arts has an incredible tradition of excellence, and I cannot wait to get to work alongside these students and families. My goal is to build something special here, a program where any student can be a singer, grow musically, and leave better than they came.ā€

Glass has also been the music director at Saint Matthew United Methodist Church since 2021, and the tenor section leader for church services and member of the professional choir (Highland Park Chorale) at Highland Park Presbyterian Church since 2020. In 2024-2025, Glass was the assistant conductor in the Greater Dallas Choral Society youth chorus - the most prestigious youth choral organization in DFW - leading sectionals and playing piano for leading sectional rehearsals.

Curious Wednesday? The legendary Dr Richard Joiner! Born in Brookhaven but raised in Natchez. He holds a BM from MC, MCM from Southwestern Baptist Seminary and MM and PhD in Vocal Pedagogy from LSU. He was Professor of Music, Head of Choral Activities and Chair in his time at MC from 1980-2002. He lives in Clinton after retiring from Union U in Jackson TN. He remembers the choir performances from ACDA and the international performances fondly!
