East Texas A&M University is proud to announce the appointment of Christian Guillen as our new Assistant Director of Bands.

Mr. Guillen earned both his Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from East Texas A&M. During his graduate studies, he served as Graduate Teaching Assistant for the university band program and studied conducting with Mr. Phillip Clements and Dr. Stephanie DeLuca. As an undergraduate student, he performed with the Wind Ensemble and Trombone Choir throughout the United States and Europe and served on the instructional staff of the Pride Marching Band.

Prior to his appointment at East Texas, Mr. Guillen served as Assistant Director of Bands at Marshall High School from 2018 to 2024, where he conducted the Symphonic Band, taught AP Music Theory, instructed beginning band classes, and served as the show designer and arranger for the Big Red Pride Marching Band. He previously taught in Richardson ISD at L.V. Berkner High School and Apollo Junior High School.

Additionally, Mr. Guillen is an active composer, arranger, and marching arts designer whose productions have been performed by high school and collegiate ensembles throughout the United States. Ensembles performing his designs have earned appearances and placements at state marching contests across multiple states, as well as finalist and award-winning performances at regional Bands of America competitions.

His experience in the marching arts has allowed him to collaborate with and learn from members of the creative teams of The Blue Knights, The Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, The Cavaliers, and The Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps.

Mr. Guillen is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA), the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Mr. Guillen is excited to return to East Texas A&M and contribute meaningfully to the School of Music and its students. He looks forward to helping shape the next generation of musicians and music educators while continuing the tradition of excellence that has long defined the program.
