Sister Spotlight: Kate Zacca ! From wearing a back brace in middle school to starting my DPT journey at Duke this fall 🤍

Grades 6–8 were some of the toughest years for me. I was in a back brace trying to avoid spinal surgery, dealing with scoliosis and lordosis that left me in constant pain. Sitting or standing for long periods felt impossible, and my life quickly became filled with physical therapy appointments 1 to 2 times a week for nearly 5 years. Somewhere in that process, everything changed. I built such a meaningful relationship with my physical therapist ,someone I still talk to today, who didn’t just treat me, but took the time to explain the why behind everything we were doing. That curiosity turned into passion, and I fell in love with physical therapy. By grade 11, I started shadowing, and from that moment on, I knew this was exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I shadowed in all types of specialties from inpatient cardio to outpatient pediatrics. I was able to witness persons learning how to walk again after strokes and wound vacs after hip replacements. Fast forward to now I’m beyond excited to say I’ll be starting at Duke this fall 🩺💙 - KGD is so impressed with you Kate and know that you will go on to do amazing things 💚🧡
