Croghan Dam Restoration Initiative for Local Business and Renewable Energy

Croghan Dam Restoration Initiative for Local Business and Renewable Energy Support new renewable energy ideas for old infastructure and safeguarding our cultural heritage In December of 2010, St.

The Croghan Dam Restoration Initiative was founded by community members of Croghan in partnership with educators, students, and businesses in Upstate New York. This call for action and support has been prompted by New York Department Of Environmental Conservation plans to remove the Croghan Dam. Lawrence University students in partnership with The Lewis County Development Commission reported on th

e potential uses for hydroelectric power produced at the Croghan Dam. The local renewable energy production from the dam could stimulate local agriculture busines, bring new business into town, and provide renewable energy for the town itself. If restored and outfitted with a run of river hydroelectric facility, The Croghan Dam and it's positive impact on both the community and environment could serve as a model for the development of low head mill dams in New York State and the rest of the country.
