Here is a snapshot of the University of Dallas volunteers in action at Faustina Academy, one of this year's volunteer sites for The Big Event: Serving Irving.

On May 2, during finals week, 120+ UDallas students, faculty, staff and alumni came together to serve their Irving neighbors.

Since 2021, The Big Event has been the University of Dallas' largest one-day, student-run service project, with volunteers tackling yard work, window washing, painting, weeding and home repairs across Irving.

Gratitude, faith and service. The National Catholic Register captured what made our Class of 2026 Commencement unforgettable.

His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan's commencement address to the University of Dallas Class of 2026 was featured in the National Catholic Register alongside some of the most inspiring Catholic commencement addresses across the country this spring.

"As a commencement speaker, I'm supposed to give advice. That's easy. Be grateful." — Cardinal Dolan

Graduate Andrew Denny's words were also featured: 'We did not get here by ourselves. Today, I leave not just with a degree, but with a purpose. Now it is our turn to go out and serve.'

With deep sadness, we share the news of the passing of Monsignor Don Fischer on Pentecost Sunday.

Msgr. Fischer served as chaplain at the University of Dallas for 13 years, from 1973 to 1986, and was deeply beloved by our community and throughout the Diocese of Dallas. Among his most lasting contributions was his dedicated work in coordinating the fundraising and construction of our own Church of the Incarnation, a sacred space that continues to be the heart of our campus.

Please join us in praying for Msgr. Fischer and for the consolation of his family and friends.

Evening of Prayer Sunday, May 31 at 5 p.m. Church of the Incarnation, University of Dallas

Funeral Mass Monday, June 1 at 11 a.m. St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 S. Jupiter Rd., Richardson, Texas, presided by Bishop Edward Burns, joined by Bishop Kelly and brother priests.

Today is Pentecost Sunday, the birthday of the Church. The same Holy Spirit who descended upon the Apostles is alive and at work in the world today, in our classrooms, our community and our hearts.

For many UD alumni, questions about freedom, truth, human dignity and the role of faith in public life were not abstract classroom exercises. They were part of the intellectual formation that shaped how they see the world.

UD alumnus Fr. Mike Johns, a priest of the Diocese of Little Rock, tackles this question head-on in his article 'What is Freedom of Religion?' published in Public Discourse.

Drawing on George Washington, Vatican II, Cardinal Ratzinger and Pope St. John Paul II, Fr. Johns argues that true religious liberty is not rooted in unconstrained personal choice, but in the human person's dignity and capacity to seek truth. In a culture increasingly shaped by the idea that a choice is moral simply because it is free, Fr. Johns makes the case that the Catholic Church is uniquely positioned to offer a unifying vision of human dignity grounded in truth and openness to God.

"We need philosophical arguments to counter the empty voluntarism of our time, and this is a challenge the Church should meet head-on."
