After a long and incredibly rewarding tenure at The Daily Campus, I’ve decided it’s time to begin my next chapter.

To the current staff: leading this newsroom has been one of the greatest honors of my career. Your dedication to the truth, your late-night persistence, and resilience inspire me every single day. The Daily Campus staff is the largest it’s been in four years because the stories you report make a difference. Campus news matters.

To my former staffers, students and alumni: seeing where your careers and lives have taken you is my greatest source of pride. I watch you in Knoxville, read your stories in NYC, cheer you on in Boston, Dallas, New Orleans, LA, Tyler, Houston, Pensacola, Salt Lake City, North Carolina, I could go on and on. You carry the spirit of The DC with you, and I am so grateful to have been a small part of your journey. My office (and refrigerator) door is always open to you, just as it was in the newsroom.

As I prepare to hand over the reins to Charlie Scudder in the fall, my priority is to ensure our students are set up for continued success.

Thank you to the SMU community, our faculty, our readers, and my family for years of unwavering support. It has been a privilege to watch students bring so many SMU stories to life.

Pony up!

There is no better time to understand the importance of press freedom than now. SMU hosts former Dallas Morning News Bureau Chief for Mexico, Wall Street Journal reporter, and current editor and correspondent for Puente News Collaborative, Alfredo Corchado, today at 5:30 pm for Dedman College Interdisciplinary Institutes's Big Challenge Series on Strengthening Democracy. Seats are still available, you just need to register. You can sit next to me!
