After 41.5 years of service to Luther, Jay was posthumously named the 2026 recipient of the Spirit of Luther Award. The award is given to individuals or couples who have shown significant sustained service and a personal commitment to Luther’s mission, quality, and character. It is not given every year, making this a particularly special honor for Jay and his family.
Jay unexpectedly passed away on Dec. 23, 2025. For more than four decades, he cared for this campus and the community, always making time for a conversation, a laugh, or a helping hand. His kindness and dedication touched generations, and his absence is felt across campus.
President Brad Chamberlain presented the award to Jay’s wife, Kathy, during the annual Service of Dedication.
