We proudly congratulate Distinguished Engagement Professor Kurt Thurmaier, Ph.D., recipient of the 2025 Aaron Wildavsky Award from the Association for Budgeting and Financial Management (ABFM), the highest honor in the field of public budgeting. Professor Thurmaier joins Professor Emeritus Irene Rubin, the 2000 Wildavsky Award winner, in receiving this honor.

Oliver's Summer of Service ☀️

This summer, MPA student Oliver Myers traded in the typical desk work for something a little different. Serving as a camp counselor for NIU STEAM Camps, his focus was in sustainability, the environment, and food systems.

From touring the Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District to visiting the Ferrara Candy Factory and volunteering at Barb Food Mart, Oliver helped campers see how local organizations serve the community.

Over the summer, our department visits MPA students at their internship sites to see their work in action. Last week we caught up with Jacob Uhlmann, a Management Intern with the Village of Algonquin.

Jacob has been getting up close and personal with ADA Site Evaluations, helping work on events like Miracle on Main, and learning about infrastructure operations through wastewater management.

We're proud to see our students contributing to the communities they serve.
