Today marks the annual day for the Holocaust remembrance of the victims lost within the Shoah (the Holocaust). Drake Hillel had hoped to present a Holocaust education week to commemorate the 11 million victims of the Holocaust, since we are not able to be on campus, Drake Hillel would like to share this message with you.
Yom HaShoah, is the day of remembrance for the 11 million victims of the Holocaust. On this day we take time to think about the lives cut too short driven by hatred and bigotry. While the majority of the victims of the Holocaust were targeted due to their religious beliefs, the Holocaust also effected other marginalized groups. Today we take time to hear the stories of the survivors, whether physically or in our hearts. Today we remember their names, their stories, and their humanity. Today we say Never Again.
Every year that we remember those lost to us in the Holocaust, we take an oath to say "Never Again, We Remember". We remember those who were taken from their homes, separated from their families, and killed due to their beliefs. We say "Never Again" not only for the Jewish communities that were lost to the Holocaust but also to discrimination and persecution no matter religious beliefs, race, ability, or sexuality. We say Never Again for those who cannot say it for themselves. We say Never Again because although the Holocaust happened years ago, the generational trauma and effects are still being felt today.
We urge you to remember, to listen to the stories of the survivors and to the stories recorded of those past. We urge you to be the voice and stand against hatred. Stand with us as we say Never Again.
Below is a link to the stories of the victims of the Holocaust, this will make people uncomfortable, but it is a discomfort we must live with in order to carry on their memory. We are the last generation to be able to hear from a survivor first hand, hear them and pass the message on. Help us reclaim the names and stories of the numbered, help us carry their memory on for the future to finally say Never Again and have actions behind our words.
