Did you know Mother Teresa visited Mount St. Mary’s not once, but twice?

With her feast day celebrated this week on September 5, we’re looking back at her very first visit to campus in 1975—four years before she received the Nobel Peace Prize. (She would later return to grace the Mount again in 1995!) Roughly 2,500 students, faculty, seminarians, and visitors gathered to hear her address the Mount community.

Alumni Spotlight: Alicia Souder MED'10 C'05 was named Frederick County Public Schools Teacher of the Year for 2025-26—a reminder of the powerful impact the graduates of the Mount's Anthony F. and Alice G. Agnone School of Education have in our communities.

Alicia, who is a Literacy Specialist at Parkway Elementary School in Frederick, MD, has built a career around researching new ways to help children learn to read.

“I fundamentally believe that every child has the right to a high-quality education,” she said. “That's why I love my job; it’s a way I can continue my own professional knowledge and spread that to my colleagues to cast a wider net so that children learn to read."
