The Mount mourns the passing of Professor Robert Ducharme, Ph.D., a dedicated teacher and scholar of literature and film who transformed the lives of generations of students through his gifted and inspiring teaching.

In his over forty years at the Mount, Dr. Ducharme profoundly shaped the university’s contemporary sense of its liberal arts identity and mission, including shaping the language of the Mount’s Undergraduate Mission Statement.

Through a generous gift from his former student Raphael Della Ratta (C’92), The Ducharme Lecture, delivered twice a year at the Mount, continues Dr. Ducharme’s legacy of intellectual curiosity and the fearless exploration of ideas.

It is with heavy hearts we share the news of the recent passing of Kurt Blaugher, Ph.D. In 2023, he was named Professor Emeritus after 36 years of dedicated service to the Mount and to the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. He shaped generations of aspiring artists through his encouragement, generosity of spirit, and kind-hearted nature. May he rest in peace.

Class of 2026, your big day is almost here! 🎓 🤩 We can't wait to celebrate you at the 218th Commencement at Mount St. Mary's University.
Doors to the Knott ARCC Arena open at 10 a.m., the procession begins at 10:45 a.m., and the ceremony starts at 11 a.m. Family and friends can also watch live from Knott Auditorium or via the Commencement webcast.

Today the Mount community celebrated Sr. Mary Kate Birge who, after 25 years of teaching in the theology department, will be retiring at the end of the semester. Here she stands with her colleagues in the theology department, past and present. “The Mount has been formative for me as a teacher, as a theologian, and as a human being,” she said. We wish her well as she is called to her next adventure in life.

Congratulations to the Applied Behavior Analysis Program on earning full recognition as a Tier 2a program from the Association for Behavior Analysis International! Tier 2a recognition is the level immediately before accreditation in the organization’s Tiered Education Model, and it reflects a program’s alignment with rigorous standards for curriculum, training quality, and faculty qualifications.

This distinction is especially meaningful because not every ABA program pursues or earns this level of recognition. For the Mount’s MSABA program, it signals strong, independently evaluated preparation for future behavior analysts and reflects the program’s commitment to high-quality, research-informed education grounded in the Mount’s mission.

Special thanks to Program Director Dr. Griffin Rooker, Associate Director Dr. Kwadwo Britwum, and the faculty, staff, and administrators whose dedication helped make this achievement possible. We are proud of our students, faculty, and the program we have built together, and we celebrate this recognition as a reflection of that shared commitment.
