Yesterday, we celebrated Cynthia Horton McKane on her upcoming retirement. Cynthia has spent her time at our library teaching and supporting thousands of students, dedicating hours of her time advocating for the library, and supporting the JCC community in any way that she can. She is a vital asset that will be greatly missed. Thank you for your hard work and dedication, Cynthia. Have a happy retirement!

A close-up photo of several books stacked together with a small Polaroid-style picture placed on top. The photo shows three smiling students posing in front of a green sign reading “Cattaraugus County Campus.” Visible book covers include a thriller novel with large bold lettering and a blue-toned cover, alongside a Laura Ingalls Wilder book with a red-and-white gingham border. The overall image has a warm, nostalgic feel.

We are SO proud of our Learning Center Coordinators!

Our Janelle Grey and Beth Lisi took their expertise from the Learning Center all the way to Seattle to present at a national conference on how students can use AI to learn the right way.

Their session, “Thinking Outside the Bot,” focused on turning AI into a learning partner by encouraging curiosity, better questioning, and what they call “productive struggle,” which can lead to real understanding.

We’re proud to see Janelle and Beth leading the way and shaping how AI supports student success!

The featured poem is “The Horses” by Ted Hughes, labeled as a featured excerpt. The text appears in large light-colored font within a dark brown rounded rectangle. The excerpt describes horses standing still in a quiet, light-filled scene, with imagery of “steaming and glistening,” “draped stone manes,” and movement stirring beneath them.

In the lower left corner is a small headshot of a smiling person with long dark hair and glasses, standing near a tree. Beneath the poem, text reads: “Loved by: Izzy, Tutor at the Catt. County Campus.”

Alt text (Image 2 – Footprints in the Sand):
A beige and deep red promotional graphic from JCC Learning Commons for National Poetry Month. The header reads “JCC Learning Commons Presents: National Poetry Month,” with the JCC (Jamestown Community College) logo in the top right corner.

The featured piece is “Footprints in the Sand: One Night a Man Had a Dream” by Carolyn Joyce Carty, Ella H. Scharring-Hausen, and Robert Louis Scharring-Hausen. The text is displayed in white within a large dark red rounded rectangle and presents a well-known reflective narrative about a man dreaming he walked with the Lord along the beach.

The passage describes moments in life where only one set of footprints appears, symbolizing times when the Lord carried him through hardship.

At the bottom, text reads: “Loved by: Kelly, Tutor at the Catt. County Campus.”
