Congratulations to our first 4x MS4 Cadets to graduate from Cadet Summer Training at Fort Knox, KY.  Cadets Williams, Marsh, Barnett and Soucy all finished in the top half of their Platoons.  They are all better trained leaders and warriors because of this experience and they are ready to lead the BSB in the fall!  Great work!  BSLTW!

It’s with great sadness and appreciation that the Bay State Battalion bids farewell to MSG Alan Sutton, who has served as the Battalion’s Senior Military Science Instructor for the past 3 years. MSG Sutton is departing WPI for the Army’s Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, TX. No social media post can do justice to the impact MSG Sutton has had, and continues to have, on this program and on the future leadership of our Army. MSG Sutton embodied our motto “Bay State Leads the Way” and his personal mantra of “Competence Breeds Confidence and Confidence Breeds Excellence” is ingrained in the BSB legacy. You are a warfighter, teacher, coach, mentor, and friend. We are all better Soldiers and people because of you. Lead well! You are already missed. BSLTW!

We’re proud to announce that CDT Peter Angotti has now contracted. ROTC Cadets must contract before their MS III year. This requires them to pass a fitness test, know the Soldier’s Creed, and be in good academic standing. They receive a monthly stipend and possible college scholarship. In return they incur a service obligation as commissioned officers in the Army. Congratulations Cadet Angotti! Bay State Leads the Way!

This weekend our MS IIIs once again took charge of their Platoons to execute a Raid Lab. Raid, an assault on a fixed Enemy position with a planned withdrawal, is often called the hardest Platoon mission because its Objective is a known location and that the Enemy can reinforce quickly. Our Cadet Platoon Leaders were challenged to complete actions on the Objective and remove their elements quickly. You can see their violence of action in these pictures—Bay State Leads the Way!

The Army Times just announced the inductees to the Army Women’s Foundation Hall of Fame. Among them is COL(Ret) Ryan, a Bay State Battalion alumna. COL Diane M. Ryan attended the College of the Holy Cross and was commissioned through the Bay State Battalion in 1988, as a Signal Officer. She holds a PhD and two Master’s degrees and ran courses and programs at West Point. We are proud of COL Ryan’s accomplishments and we see her as an excellent example of the type of leader our student-soldiers in ROTC can become

This weekend our Cadets completed the Platoon Movement to Contact Lab. Movement to Contact is typically a search-and-destroy mission where Cadets must navigate a Platoon into an Enemy’s AO and destroy the Enemy force there. Our MS III Platoon Leaders were evaluated on their ability to move tactically, utilize fires, and maneuver their Squads once decisively engaged.

Our first lab of the spring semester focused on the Platoon Ambush. Based on time and weather considerations, our MS IV TACs broke the training into three phases.

In the “crawl” phase the TACs demonstrated the steps to an ambush.

Then they lead the training Cadets through a movement to their ORP in a Platoon Column—the “walk” phase.

After that the Cadets were on their own to conduct actions-on during the “run” phase.

After an AAR (After-Action Review), the Cadets were turned loose and had a snowball fight while they waited for transportation home. A solid day of training and a promising start to the semester!

This weekend our Battalion represented the Army during an all-service soccer tournament among Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force ROTC. Bay State placed second in the end…motivation for next year, and a great opportunity to meet Cadets from other programs—one team, one fight!
