We honor the life and legacy of Evelyn Hardy, a distinguished Broward College alumna of the Class of 1982.
Evelyn overcame extraordinary challenges—returning to school after 37 years to acquire her high school equivalency certificate, raising children, and earning multiple degrees—and served as a beloved counselor and mentor at Broward College for many years. In 1990 Evelyn received two prestigious awards in recognition of her contributions and achievements: she was one of only 5 alumni from Florida community colleges to receive the LeRoy Collins Distinguished Community College Alumni Award and she was inducted into Broward College’s Hall of Alumni Distinction.
Featured in an article in the Sun Sentinel in 1990, Evelyn explained her passion for learning that was ignited at Broward College, “I thought a two-year degree would do it for me, but I found out I needed the higher education to do what I wanted to do,” she said. “I’ve always told my kids and the students I counsel to strive to be all that you can be, and that’s what I’m doing.”
Evelyn's family welcomes all who knew and loved her to attend the upcoming viewing and celebration of life beginning Friday, August 29. Please see the details in this image provided by her family.
