We strive to serve and drive lasting impact through programs that benefit Grand Rapids Black community. A Message from our President,
Greetings Grand Rapids Alumnae Chapter, Community Partners, Friends, and Visitors! On behalf of the dedicated members of the Grand Rapids Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, thank you for taking the time to learn about our chapter and how w
e continue to serve the ideals of our organization. I am honored to serve as the 25th Chapter President and to be the 22nd person to hold this office. I stand on the shoulders of sorors who have each contributed to the growth and success of our chapter. Since November 17, 1968, when thirteen Deltas came together to form the Grand Rapids Alumnae Chapter, we have grown to more than 100 members strong. For over 56 years, our chapter has worked hard to uphold the ideals and continue the legacy of the 22 Founders. We have supported students attending Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, presented The Best of Broadway performances at St. Cecilia, and led initiatives such as the HIV-AIDS Project, African American Male Forum, Jabberwock, Academic Pentathlon, Jazz Brunch scholarships, May Week and Scholarships, Delta Academy and Delta GEMS, Teen Mom Mentoring, Adopt-A-Highway, Cotillion-Beautillion, and more. Our mission remains clear: to continue moving Forward with Fortitude by Engaging Our Sisterhood, Empowering Our Communities, and Elevating Our Impact. We align and implement programs that focus on Delta’s National Five-Point Programmatic Thrust:
Educational Development
Economic Development
International Awareness and Involvement
Physical and Mental Health
Political Awareness and Involvement
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded 111 years ago on January 13, 1913, by 22 young women studying at Howard University. They sought to create an organization rooted in sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action. Leading with the Power of the 22, we will continue to honor our past while enriching our present and empowering our future. If you are a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. new to the area and looking for a chapter to call home, we would love to welcome you. Thank you for visiting our website. We also invite you to follow us on our social media sites and hope you will return frequently to obtain information on our upcoming events and support our efforts to elevate our impact! In Delta Love,
Dr. Valissa Armstead, President
