31st October marks Reformation Day, the 508th anniversary of Martin Luther posting his 95 theses on the door of All Saints Church in Wittenberg which affirmed an individual’s opportunity to have a personal saving relationship with God through faith in Christ alone.

🔶 The Meaning Behind the Orange Sash, collarette & Regalia 🔶

One of the most recognisable symbols of the Orange Order is the colour orange itself, representing the House of Orange-Nassau—the lineage of King William III (William of Orange). As a Sovereign Prince of Orange, his legacy is honoured through the traditions of the Orange Institution.

🔸 Why Orange?
The colour became a symbol of Protestant heritage and loyalty following King William’s victory at the Battle of the Boyne (1690). It is believed that William was first seen wearing an orange sash in Newry during the Williamite–Jacobite Wars, marking its deep association with faith and freedom.

🔸 The Orange Collarette
Worn with pride, the collarette is a narrow band of cloth draped around the neck, forming a “V” shape on the chest. More than just ceremonial wear, it represents:
🔹 Lodge membership
🔹 Position within the Order
🔹 Awards and honours received

The Orange sash and regalia are powerful symbols of faith, tradition, and the enduring legacy of King William III.
