Word is spreading about the fun children will have when they attend the camps being held on campus in June and July!

First, we will have Pioneer Skills Camp Monday, June 15-Friday, June 19, on the Doak House Museum grounds. Children will learn and practice such things as fire starting, cooking, fishing and building a camp site. Dr. Peter Noll, professor of public history and museum studies, who has greatly increased the usage of the house and played a major role in the creation of the Tusculum Nature Trail in the ground, will lead this camp.

The next two weeks, the university will hold Tusculum Theatre Camp – Monday, June 22-Friday, June 26, and Monday, June 29-Friday, July 3, in the Marilyn duBrisk Theatre and Behan Arena Theatre. Steve Schultz, our director of Arts Outreach, and Erin Hensley Schultz, our costume director, will lead this camp. They have a wealth of experience as performers and production leaders to help guide young theater enthusiasts and others who are interested in exploring that outlet.

Students in Tusculum University Educational Talent Search who are about to enter high school learned more about the experience ahead of them at an event on our campus.

Talent Search recently held 8th Grade Future Ready Day in the Dr. Nancy B. Moody Lecture Hall in the Meen Center. The day consisted of fun activities as well as informative sessions that covered academic items and life skills. What the students learned will serve them well in their teenage years and throughout the rest of their life.

The lead-off session was “Freshman Year and Beyond: Tips for a Smooth Transition.” Then students participated in “Level Up: The Real-World Challenge Escape Game,” which consisted of six stations that discussed other important elements of their lives. Those included:

• Laundry logic
• Kitchen survival
• Manners and first impressions
• Budget relay
• Decision escape
• Time management race

We enjoyed helping the students prepare for high school and wish them tremendous success as they engage in their studies and develop further as individuals.

We are delighted to see Dr. Carter DelSorbo recognized! He was an outstanding student and has been extremely supportive of the university as an alumnus. This has been particularly the case recently as he participates in his medical residency. We are thrilled to have played a role in his development. We are excited about Dr. DelSorbo's future and know he will be an excellent representative of Tusculum as his career develops!

🎓
Carter Delsorbo, a 2020 University graduate, began his academic journey early and found more than a pathway to medicine. He found a community that recognized his potential and invested in his future.

Now pursuing his residency in Family Medicine at East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine, Carter reflects on how Tusculum shaped both his career and commitment to service. “Tusculum welcomed me as a dual enrollment student and challenged me to rise to the level of a full-time scholar,” he shares. “Through mentorship from faculty like Dr. Chuck Pearson and the support of the Trustee Honors Scholarship, I was able to focus on my calling without the burden of financial stress. That foundation continues to guide me as I work to serve others through medicine.”

Carter’s journey highlights how Tennessee’s independent colleges and universities empower students early, providing personalized support, meaningful mentorship, and opportunities that prepare them to lead lives of purpose and impact.

Student talent is on full display in the newest edition of the journal "Sit Lux." This is an annual publication led by students, and this year's production includes contributions from their classmates, alumni and professors as well as a message from the university's president.

The newest edition is dedicated to the late Payton Cook, a freshman in the business administration program and a men's lacrosse player, who passed away in a car accident in December. Grief and loss were prominent subjects in the journal.

"Sit Lux" contains not only written work but also art created by students in that program. Written pieces, from multiple genres, came from students in a variety of academic disciplines.

You can read more about "Sit Lux" and the perspectives of students and professors at https://www3.tusculum.edu/news/news/2026/grief-loss-and-other-subjects-explored-by-tusculum-students-and-alumni-in-journal-dedicated-to-pioneer-who-passed-away/.

We congratulate the student editors, the writers and artists for an excellent journal. It is an example of the active and experiential learning that is a hallmark of a Tusculum education. It also highlights our preparation of students to be career-ready professionals.

The group photo is of editorial staff members, left to right, JP Campione, Isabella Gall, Kiersten Paxton and Lily Burgner. The photo with one individual is of Payton Cook. The other photos show the front and back covers of "Sit Lux."

We were pleased to welcome incoming students to campus for Pioneer Quest today. This event is an opportunity for these new students to learn more about what they can expect and what opportunities await them.

The students were able to ask questions and hear many speakers provide insight. They were able to meet with faculty members and the Office of Financial Aid as they make final preparations before starting their classes. They also were able to enjoy lunch in the Tusculum cafeteria!

We are excited to see these students make their mark on Tusculum and grow academically, socially and spiritually during their studies with us!
