Meet Vice President Trey!

What is your name + pronouns?
My name is Trey, pronouns are he/they.

What’s your major?
Biological sciences EEO track environmental studies and environmental education microcredential.

Where did you hear about ECOS and why did you join?
I heard of ECOS my second year at NKU when I attended the a club and organization fair in the science center. I stopped by the table and got some information from the president at the time and after talking to some other members I joined because their goals and missions for the club aligned with my goals and beliefs.

What environmental topics are you interested in at the moment? Environmental topics I’m interested are anything conservation science but currently I’m most interested in monarch butterflies and ways we can help them. Invasive species management to help preserve our ecosystems. As well as environmental education because I’d like for our next generations to have better understanding and opportunities than I had.

During today’s regular member meeting, we visited NKU Horticulture’s winter Greenhouse 🌴

We learned about some plant species on campus and pest control within the greenhouse. Thank you for having us NKU Horticulture!

Want to help reduce waste in your area? Talk to the ECOS members that visited Cincinnati Recycling and Reuse Hub this past weekend!

We learned about CRRH’s mission, operations, and volunteer opportunities. This organization collects and redistributes materials around Cincinnati that would otherwise go to the landfill! They provide a space where almost anything can be recycled. Thank you for the tour

How did you hear about ECOS and why did you join?
I learned about ECOS at Freshfusion 2021. I joined because I am passionate abt the environment and want to work to conserve it for future generations.

What environmental topics are you most interested in right now?
I am most interested in ecosystem ecology, animal communication, and fungi.

I don’t remember how I found out about ecos but I joined because I wanted to meet other environmentalists.

What environmental issues are you interested in right now?
I’m right now interested in degrowth and low-tech solutions to modern problems.

We’re enjoying the warmer weather today☀️

Reminder that this semester’s final meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday (30th ) at 4pm in SU 105! The Citizen Climate Lobby will be presenting climate-related information and for our convenience there will be free pizza (whoop whoop!)

After the presentation, we will wrap up the meeting and elect new officers. See you there!!

ECOS recently took a trip to NKU’s campus greenhouse, where they saw several of the different types of plants NKU uses on their campus. They also took a tour into the “jungle warehouse” where NKU stores some of their much larger, more exotic plants. After the tour, students helped the Horticulture team to transplant new seedlings into larger containers where they will grow before they are planted on campus. A shout out and big thanks goes to NKU’s Horticulture team for the tour and all the work they do to keep NKU environmentally friendly!
