Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 1am

05/16/2026

Suppose I should talk about Monday. Yes there is a chance of severe weather including tornadoes. Do we know exactly how bad it's going to be yet? Not quite. Still some time to sort data out, probably not a bad idea to ensure your severe weather plans are in place no matter the outcome. Will post another update Monday morning.

Severe thunderstorm watch until midnight.

05/14/2026

Severe weather returns to the forecast for this afternoon. While it's not a huge chance, a chance does exist for some storms to fire late afternoon and these storms will have the risk of large hail and damaging winds. Tornado threat is very very low but as always be weather aware with any storms that form.

Severe thunderstorm watch until 4am

04/26/2026

Could be a stormy afternoon and evening today. Models are showing storms approaching Jackson County by 1-2pm. These storms will mostly likely be strong with a chance of severe. Additional storms may form after this first line, but it's all dependent on how much the atmosphere gets stabilized with the earlier rain and storms.

Not a major day, but definitely be aware if you have afternoon plans.

Looks like Jackson County missed the brunt of the severe weather today thankfully. Currently a tornado warning for the topeka area but frankly I don't see anything on radar outside of some high winds.

Tornado Watch until 9pm

04/23/2026

No real change for the forecast for today. Expect a line of storms to form between 5-7pm and quickly go severe. Any storms in this line will be capable of all hazards including tornadoes. Please be weather aware tonight and ensure you have multiple ways to receive warnings.

It's been quiet but tomorrow brings another chance of severe weather. Right now it's looking like evening will be primetime for storms along a cold front. All hazards are possible including tornadoes and large hail with embedded supercells. Be weather aware tomorrow and ensure you have multiple ways to receive warnings.

A question was asked last time about apps and I recommend Storm Shield. It alerts based on your actual location and not county wide alerts. It also tracks your location and will alert based on your current position. Basic alerts are completely free in the app so you don't need in app purchases to use it. I've used it for years and have been very happy with it's performance.

Sorry for the delay in posting this - i'm taking my family camping this weekend and had the brilliant idea to pack up everything this morning and it took forever lol.

Anyway, today looks interesting. Storms are expected to form late afternoon along a cold front. Because this is a cold frontal mode, storms will line out quickly and main threat will be damaging wind. That being said, if any storms form out ahead of the cold front, they have the potential for tornadoes and very large hail.

Right now it's looking like storms may form just after the front passes through Jackson County. However, don't be surprised if things fire right over the top of us and we do see some heavy rain and possibly high winds.

The nice thing is, once the storms form, the severe risk is over for the night and things will dry out rather quickly.

I'll be on the road most of the afternoon so not able to keep an eye on things as closely as I usually do, but I definitely want everyone to be weather aware this afternoon and stay tuned to local news outlets for the latest updates.
